Wrewre also known as Muskmelon Seeds in English are seeds from Muskmelon, a fruit from the gourd family. There are several varieties of  Muskmelon including Cantaloupe and Honey Dew which the fruit differ in flavour and appearance although the nutritional benefits are quite similar. The fruit of the variety of muskmelon from which Ghanaians obtain it is inedible. This melon is only farmed for its seeds.

In Ghana, it is mostly known to the people in the Northern parts and Ashanti region of Ghana. Tribes from these regions mainly use wrewre in making soup. It is popularly paired with Guinea Fowl in making soup. The soup made with wrewre is similar in appearance and taste to groundnut soup. Although it

ssoup is less dense and a little lighter in colour. It has a nutty flavour however without the nutty heavy taste of groundnut soup. For people with a nut allergy, Wrewre soup is a good alternative to groundnut soup.
